Queen Elizabeth National Park is situated in the northwestern region of Bwindi National Park. Tourists visiting Bwindi Forest often find it fascinating to explore the southern area of the park (Ishasha section), renowned for its tree-climbing lions. The entry fee for this wildlife park is 50 dollars, valid for a duration of 24 hours. The park spans 100 kilometres from south to north, offering rewarding sightings of various mammals, including elephants, Cape buffaloes, and leopards. The Kazinga Channel serves as a connection between Lake George and Lake Edward, acting as a vital lifeline for the wildlife in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Nyungwe National Park
Nyungwe National Park – Unique Wildlife and Endemism
The park is home to intact forests and peat bogs, moors, thickets, and grasslands, providing habitats for a highly diverse flora and fauna, including globally threatened species such as the Eastern Chimpanzee, the Golden Monkey, and the Critically Endangered Hill’s Horseshoe Bat, which is endemic to the park itself. There are 32 species of amphibians, 22 of which are Albertine Rift endemics. The park also hosts at least 290 species of butterflies, including 47 endemic to the Albertine Rift.
Nyungwe National Park is situated in south-western Rwanda and constitutes part of the highly biodiverse Albertine Rift Ecoregion. It comprises three component parts: Cyamudongo Natural Forest, Gisakura Natural Forest, and Nyungwe Natural Forest, covering a total of approximately 101,963 hectares. The forest lies on the border with Burundi, where it is contiguous with the Kibira National Park to the south, and Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Nyungwe is about a five to six hours’ drive from Kigali (225 km), or a 40-minute flight from Kigali to Kamembe Airport
