There are several camping grounds in the wildlife reserves in Rwanda and Uganda. Akagera National Park has four official campsites: Muyumbu, Shakani, Mutumba, and Mihindi. Each site offers unique environments and facilities, from lakeside views to high hilltops. In Queen Elizabeth National Park, notable camping spots include the Ishasha Sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions, and Mweya Peninsula, which provides sweeping vistas of the park. All campsites are equipped with basic amenities such as toilets, firewood, and safety fences, while some feature enhanced facilities like solar-heated showers, flushing toilets, and even coffee shops. Although visitors can rent tents at select sites, it is recommended to bring personal camping equipment, food, and bottled water, as the tap water is not safe for drinking.
